TOPECA (KSNT) – Friday, May 5th is known in Spanish culture as Cinco de Mayo. The opening of the sculpture by Estrella Teresa Cuevas is most appropriate on this day.
The life-size bronze statue is located on the 600 block of Kansas Avenue near Evergy Plaza. She will be the first Hispanic and first female statue on Kansas Avenue in downtown Topeka. Fiesta Topeka royals will sell authentic Mexican food during the evening’s festivities.
Special guests include artist/sculptor Joe Skiba, Topeka Mayor Michael Padilla, local elected officials and investors.
Music and entertainment by young local artists Lainie Hernandez, José Cuevas, DJ AES360, Maria Cuevas and Tess Cuevas will perform alongside Mariachi Habanero.
